Enzyme Histochemical studies on the developing rat skin.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the sequential chnages of enzymeactivities in skin during the growing period of rat. Histochemical studies of varoius enzymes were carried out on sole and lower leg of skins 1 day to 5 weeks. after birth.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. The epidermis had pronounced activities of a-naphthyl acetate esterase, lactate dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and the dermis, had moderate or strong activities of acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, adenosine triphosphatase and b-glucuronidase.
2. The hair follicles showed moderate activities of acid phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase and glucose-b-phosphate dehydrogenase. The sebaceous gland had pronounced activities of b-naphthyl acetate esterase and glucose-b-phosphatedehydrogenase.
3. Both age-related and regional differences in the degree of enzyme activities, were found for b-naphthyl acetate esterase, adenosine triphosphatase, monoamine oxidase and P-glucuronidase, while only age-related difference was found for alkaline phosphatase activity.
